Viña Ruda more than a winery
25/05/2015
Viña Ruda is located in the epicenter of the largest wine cradle: Tomelloso. Our wines express the personality of a single region, where the climate of extreme temperatures and the special characteristics of the land favor the cultivation of quality vineyards.

Location and soil

Our vineyards are located 670 meters. The soils are very heterogeneous, despite the small area they occupy. They range from sandy loam to silt loam, clay appearing small areas. This provides a wealth of nuances, and allows us to manage and use each parcel for specific characteristics.

Climatology

With over 2,500 hours of sunshine a year and 300 days cleared, these lands Mediterranean climate / continental maximum temperatures can exceed 40 ° C and minimum of -5 ° C and even lower, with an average of 14.4 ° C. These climatic characteristics translate into a good ripening grapes and thus in wine production increased color intensity, optimum structure and aromatic power.

Vineyard

Winegrowers family tradition, Viña Ruda has 14.2 hectares of vineyards, planted between 1985 and 2006.

The oldest vines are planted in what is known as Marco Real, having the same distance between plants between the lines. In this case 2.5 mx 2.5 m, giving a planting density of 1,600 plants per hectare.

Younger vines are planted every 1.5 m with a distance between 2.5 m streets, giving a planting density of 2,700 plants per hectare.

Driving and pruning systems we use in Vina Ruda is the double cord. It is a system with two arms on each side of the plant. Pruning is short on the two cords that are situated 1 m from the ground, thumbs up.

As for irrigation, all plots are equipped with drip irrigation. This option is only used when weather conditions require it, because at certain times of summer water shortages could jeopardize the quality of the fruit.

Varieties

One of the big differences between wines and others, lies in the grapes that have been developed. We could say that grape varieties there are "thousands" but when appropriate for wine grapes is concerned, the number is reduced to a few hundred. Anecdotally, in the ampelographic Museum in Madrid, it has a collection of nearly 3,000 varieties, making it the first in importance of our country and the third in the world.

The vineyard consists of 3 varieties, 2 colors and white: Airen 6.2 hectares, 4.5 hectares and Syrah Tempranillo 3.5 hectares.

Overall wines made from Airen variety are clean and bright pale straw color. Aromas of medium to good intensity with fruit tones that clearly clearly remember the apple or banana and sometimes with faint hints of almond and wild flowers. A dry mouth are doomed or something, light body, with little extract, not very fresh taste acid.

Tempranillo or cencibel is within the native varieties suitable for aged wines of high quality. It has proven very valid for young wines when they are developed for this purpose.

The Syrah provides dense, balanced and long life, with complex aromas of rich in nuances, his palate wine is elegant perceiving certain astringency that does not hinder your enjoyment.

Vintage

Vintage is the process of harvesting the grapes for winemaking. When to start the harvest, is determined by the degree of grape maturity, as we have seen, it is determining the characteristics and quality of the final product.

The time to start is hesitant Vintage random, but depends on the type of wine to develop, affecting factors such as sugar, acidity and polyphenol content.

Vintage conducted between the months of September and October. All harvesting is done at night, to prevent oxidation and take advantage of cooler times of day.
